May 1 Deadline for New Members

While we encourage youth to join 4-H at any time throughout the year, May 1st is the deadline for members to participate at the County Round Up.  So, make sure you remind and get any of your new 4-H members registered with the paperwork in this weekend.

Express Your Interest

Are you interested in Alpacas?  We are currently taking a pole of the people who may be intersted in an Alpaca project in 4-H.  We are considering the opportunity to add this as one of our Clinton County 4-H Projects and need to know who is interested.  If this seems like something that might interest you, please contact Rebecca Sellers as soon as possible.  You can do so by emailing at rad5003@psu.edu or calling 570-726-0022 ext. 131.

Clarification on Follower Feature

I apologize for the misconception that by signing up for the blog as a follower, you will receive email notifications when I post new blogs.  When you sign up for a follower, this is a lot like becoming a fan of something on Facebook.  You may get noticications, but only on your dashboard.

As a result of this, I will do my best to send out an email when major posts are being made such as newsletters.  However, it is a good idea to check the blog on your own periodically, perhaps weekly.  My suggestion would be to make the blog one of your "favorites" so that it is easy to access.

4-H Camp, the Highlight of the Summer

Registrations are now open for one of the most popular 4-H events of the year! Counselors are in preparation and 4-H camp will be here before we know it. Sign up today because registrations end May 14, 2010.

The Central Region 4-H Camp will be held June 20-24, 2010. Eight year olds will attend during the first night for Mini Camp with it being optional for nine year olds. The regular camp will begin on June 21, 2010. Clinton County campers will be joined by campers from Centre, Clearfield, Huntingdon, Blair, Cambria and Bedford Counties. Thanks to the Community Foundation, we are able to offer this opportunity for just $70 before May 1st and $80 before May 14th.

4-H Camp Staff have been preparing for the 2010 camp for quite some time. Adult staff have been arranging for speakers and activities to fit the theme “4-H Meet the Future”. This year’s camp will explore recent history while looking into the future for growth and opportunities. Campers will learn how to eat healthy and exercise, manage finances, and work with other generations all while participating in their typical camp experiences like crafts and recreation.

Camp Counselors have also been working very hard. These teens came together for a Camp Counselor Retreat on April 9-11, 2010. During the retreat, they participated in activities that would prepare them to serve as camp counselors and to care for the younger children. They developed their skills independently and learned how to work together as one big team of staff. They will reconvene on June 16, 2010 for an additional Teambuilding Day in order to make final preparations for camp. With the help of these counselors, 4-H Camp is sure to be a safe and inclusive environment.

If your child is looking for something to do this summer, sign them up for 4-H camp. It is an experience full of life lessons and friendships that will last a lifetime. Camp is full of activities for everyone. Call the Clinton County Extension Office for more information. (570) 726-0022.

Clinton County 4-H will have a booth at the Clinton County Expo on Wednesday May 12, 2010.  We will be promoting 4-H and conducting an experiment with any children who may pass by.  Our hope is to gain awareness about 4-H and the variety of things it has to offer.

If you would be willing to help with the expo at any time between 9am and 7pm that day, please contact Rebecca Sellers at (579) 726-0022 ext. 131 or rad5003@psu.edu.  No prior knowledge of the experiment is necessary to help with the booth.

TLC Fairgrounds Clean Up Night

Thank you to all the Teen Leader Council Members and parents who came out to help clean and make improvements at the fairgrounds.  Your evening of hard work will save a lot of time later this summer!  It was nice to see everyone chip in and work together.  Keep up all the great work you are doing!

If you'd like to get involved with this group, join us on Thursday, May 6th at 7pm at the Extension Office.  We will be discussing their upcoming field trip to PSU along with several items for the fair.  We'd love to have you!

Projects in E-data

One of the recent improvements to the E-data system has been how projects are entered.  We found that members often do not know what specific project they need to take, let alone the book they need.  So, the change has been made for them to select the keyword like, "Goat", "Plants", etc. and their Organizational leader would then select their specific project and publication.

Projects and Publications can be done by leaders clicking on that button on their main screen.  This will allow them to choose for their 4-H members.

Unfortunatly, some data about projects has also been lost due to these improvements.  So, 4-Hers will have to go back in and select their keyword and leaders will select their projects and publications.  We apologize for any inconvenience, but everyone's hard work now, will make next year seem much easier!  We appreciate your cooperation!

Attention Leaders with Club Access

Some of you may be confused when you receive a message that Clark Kent has enrolled in your club.  Of course, this would be really cool, but it is a mock enrollment.  Please disregard this note since it was just a fake enrollment for training purposes.  However, you should know that from now on, when someone enrolls in your 4-H club, you will be notified of this occurance.  This feature will help to keep stay up to date with your enrollments.  If this is a problem for anyone, contact Becky Sellers to remove the feature from you name.

E-data 2.0 Installed

E-data 2.0 and the new server have been successfully installed.  This means medical forms, affirmative action cards and horse enrollment information can be done via E-data!  Birthdates and other personal information can also be safely entered since, the server is now secure and has met all the requirements for this type of information to be shared.

You will notice a new look to the E-data system and hopefully some of the features recently altered will be helpful to many of you.  If you have questions, please, do not hesitate to contact Becky Sellers at (570) 726-0022 ext. 131 or rad5003@psu.edu.
