New 4-H Enrollment

There has been a little confusion in the county regarding new 4-H members enrolling in 4-H.  We certainly encourage them to enroll as soon as possible, but we will still be accepting brand new 4-H enrollments up until May, 1, 2010.  We would like to encourage clubs to continue to recruit new members and expand their membership.

E-data Service Disruption

This is just a note to let everyone know that they may experience disruptions in your service to E-data between 9:30 and midnight tonight as updates are being made.  I hope this message will help you to plan so that this is not an inconvenience.

4-H Capital Days Scholarship

4-H Capital Days will be here before you know it.  Registrations have not begun for this, but we do know that the event will cost $300 per member who attends.  So, the 4-H Program Development Committee has decided to award two $150 scholarships to the event.  The application must be returned to the extension office by March 1st in order to ensure time for judging and registration for the event.  You can view and print the application form at http://clinton.extension.psu.edu/4Hblogfiles/CapitalDaysScholarship.pdf.

Attention all those Interested in Beef

This message would be for any 4-Her who is interested in showing beef cattle.  We have a 4-H volunteer who has offered to help any 4-Hers who would like to learn more about beef showmanship, fitting and even have the opportunity to attend some Beef Shows.  This would be a great opportunity to get some exposure early in the project year.  If this is something that interests you, please contact Rebecca Sellers at (570) 726-0022, Ext. 131.

Rules and Regulations for Purchasing Swine Out of State

The rules and regulations below are currently under review and have the potential to change in the future.  However, for the time being, please be sure to follow these guidelines when purchasing swine from other states for the 2010 fair.

1. Pigs entering the state in small groups (show pigs) must be individually identified with a state-of-origin silver ear tag or a RFID tag.

2. Feeder show pigs originating from out-of state must be accompanied by a Certificate of Veterinary Inspection (CVI) issued within 60 days of transport.

3. If pigs originate from a Pseudorabies (PRV) qualified herd, the herd number must be on the CVI, otherwise, pigs must have an individual PRV negative blood test within 30 days prior to transport.

4. If pigs originate from a Brucellosis-free state, no brucellosis test is required.

5. Pigs entering the state without a CVI and test (if necessary) are in violation of the law.

Club Officer Books

As your clubs get started for the year, we would like to remind you that the Extension Office has books for all of your officers.  This is a new series of officer books that has something for each of your officers, not just the Secretary and Treasurer.  Feel free to contact Bob Rupert at the Extension Office for a set of officer books for your club.  We would like to see each club's officers filling out these books.  Those who attended officer training will already have their books.  Good luck as you kick off 2010!
