Horse CVI Information

There has been confusion on the submitting of the Certificate of Veterinarian Inspection (CVI). The CVI is not required for 4-H events such as the June 27 4-H Sponsored Open Horse Show, riding meetings, horse camp, regional production shows, District V Horse Show, or the State 4-H Horse Show.

The CVI is required for any 4-H event that receives funding from the PA Dept of Ag. Therefore, Clinton County 4-H Horse Members must have a CVI to participate at the Aug 7 Horse & Pony 4-H Round Up and any other fair event held during the fair from the dates Aug 6-14.

The CVI may be dated from May 1, 2010 and any date thereafter. The CVI may not be dated before May 1, 2010. The CVI expires Dec 31, 2010.

If you plan on attending a horse event that is not held at the Clinton County Fairgrounds or sponsored by the Clinton County 4-H program that event may require a CVI. It is suggested that you check with the contact person on any event you wish to attend that is outside of the Clinton County 4-H Horse Program. Those events may have separate requirements concerning a CVI.

Members who have obtained their CVI for 2010 dated May 1, 2010 or later may submit the CVI with their June 1 Horse Enrollment or with their Round Up Class Sign Up due July 9. If the CVI has not been submitted to the Clinton County Extension Office before Aug 2, 2010 then the member MUST show the CVI at the book check in Aug 6 from 6 to 8 pm. This event is held in the office building in front of the horse barns at the Clinton County Fairgrounds; or members may submit the CVI on Aug 7 from 8 to 9 am at the Clinton County Announcer's Booth. Any member who has not submitted a CVI prior to the start of the Clinton County 4-H Horse & Pony Round Up will not be eligible to participate in round up.

If you have any questions please contact the Clinton County Horse Program Assistant at 570-726-0022. Thank you.

Don't forget to have your horses enrolled by June 1, 2010.  This is a hard deadline and enrollments will not be taken after this date.  You will need to enroll them on E-data and submit the proper paperwork to the Extension Office.

E-data birthdates- Urgent Message

When most of you signed up for E-data at the beginning of the year, it was not capable of holding your birthdates for security reasons.  You are now able to add that information and it is essential for various shows, including the fair.  So, please take the following steps to add this information:

1.  Log into E-data.
2.  Click on the "Biological Info" Tab.
3.  Click "Edit".
4.  Add the missing information.
5.  Click "Update" to save your changes.
6.  You are done.

Thank you for your cooperation.

Club Displays for Fair

I would like to encourage clubs to start thinking about Club Displays for the 2010 Clinton County Fair.  This year's theme will follow that of the state and 4-H camp, "4-H, Meet the Future".  If you get started on your club display early, you won't have to worry with it along with all the other fair hustle and bustle.  Make sure to add this to your next meeting agenda!

Thank you to all Expo Volunteers

I would like to thank all volunteers who came out to help with the 4-H booth at the Clinton County Expo.  Our experiment attracted a lot of kids and they left not only getting information about 4-H, but they also learned something while they visited us.  It couldn't have been such a success without the help of the volunteers for the day.  Thank you for all your hardwork and dedication!

Poultry Announcement

4-H Poultry Project Announcement: If you are planning to exhibit poultry or ducks at the Clinton County Fair each bird needs to be tested for pullorum and avian influenza, as well as receive a numbered leg band for identification purposes. The testing must be done by a Certified Poultry Technician (CPT). Bob and Gwen Bechdel are CPTs and will provide the testing services for the 4-H members showing poultry exhibits at the Clinton County Fairgrounds in the Small Animal Barn on Friday, July 2, from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm and again on Saturday, July 3, from 8:00 am to 2:00 pm. Your patience is requested as everyone will be tested on a first-come, first-served basis. If you are not able to make the times listed above, please contact Bob or Gwen Bechdel at 570-726-7675 to make arrangements for another time to test your poultry.

IF YOU ARE EXHIBITING DUCKS YOU MUST CONTACT THE BECHDELS AT 570-726-7675 IMMEDIATELY SO THAT THE TESTING SUPPLIES CAN BE ORDERED.

When you arrive for the testing procedure, it is important that you have your YELLOW small animal entry form filled out with the breed/birth date/class code and class description. It is not necessary to have a name for each of your entries. The class codes are listed on the back of the form, with the class description next to the numbers. This will not be done for you at the time of testing. Also, please have the top portion of the form completed.

In addition, there will be a Poultry Showmanship Workshop at the Bechdels’ home (231 Gray Fox Road, Mill Hall) on July 14 at 6:30 pm. For those interested please contact the Bechdels at the number above.
